The 1st Epistle of John

Chapter 2

1st John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

John uses the terms my little children or little children five times in this chapter, speaking to the reader as if he were the elder of them and they the innocent little ones.

He implores all of us to not sin. How is that possible? Could you go through one day without even a little white lie?

Can you keep the pangs of jealousy away from your mind when you see someone driving down the street in a new sports car or luxury vehicle? Or listen to a coworker talk about the new house they just moved into while you go home to a one-room flat with no closet and the power just being turned off?

These are the sins of normal people, but sins nonetheless. And Father tells us that even if we break just one of His Commandments or laws, we are guilty of breaking all of them:

Ref: James 2:10  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. KJV

But, the times that we do sin, we have One that intercedes for us, before the Father, and that One is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, we see Him clothed in a pure, white robe, but that’s only after His return to the Father. He was bloodied and torn and ripped and bruised and finally nailed to a tree before that and to what end? That He may stand before the Father, between us and the Father, to say that He bore the stripes for our sins and that took away our guilt.

Would you do that for Him? Could you do that for Him?

1st John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

     That’s a big word…propitiation, isn’t it?

Propitiation_NT:2434 hilasmos (hil-as-mos'); atonement, i.e. (concretely) an expiator:

It simply means atonement. Our Lord uses Himself to atone for our sins. And not only us as an individual, but the entire world. One big problem with the world is that when Satan comes as the Antichrist, the whole world will believe that he is the true Messiah and follow after him.

Ref: Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. KJV

     Verse 3.

1st John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Know, as used in this sense, means to follow:

Know_NT:1097 ginosko (ghin-oce'-ko); a prolonged form of a primary verb; to "know" (absolutely) in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as follow, with others not thus clearly expressed):

By keeping His Commandments, we show Him that we follow and love Him.

1st John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The keywords in this verse are keepeth not. You cannot follow Him and NOT keep His Commandments because the two go together. You cannot have one without the other.

You can’t live your life by doing everything and anything that pleases you and not use the commandments as your guidelines.

You can’t say that you like your new car and then deliberately run it into a tree. One doesn’t work without the other and that makes us a liar if this is how we believe.

And it all goes back to faith. You can tell me you have faith but unless you do something to demonstrate your faith, I’m going to think that you’re lying to me:

Ref: James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. KJV

     Verse 5.

1st John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

How do we keepeth His word? First of all, we have to know what His Word is and what it says, and you do that by READING it. Not by listening to some preacher TELL you what it says, but by READING it yourself.

So, do you know what His Word says? Do you read it with understanding? Can you ask yourself, are you in Him, and say yes without hesitation or thinking about it?

1st John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Walking with Him means how you live your life from day to day. Our Lord walked in this life without sin, we can’t do that, but we can emulate the things that He did, the things that are possible to do, while in these sinful bodies.

I know that we all live busy lives. Jobs, kids, chores, errands, you name it, it’s a full day no matter how you look at it but it takes two seconds to tell Him that you love Him, 28.29 seconds to recite the Lord’s Prayer in your mind. Keep Him in your mind as often as you can throughout your day. No one needs to see you pray out loud and it’s not an affront to Him to pray silently.

1st John 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

John is not saying anything new here, the Scriptures have been around for centuries and he’s not giving us a new commandment to follow.

The old commandment is the word. And what is the word? It’s the Bible. The Book. The Ten Commandments are just a start when it comes to obeying Him. There are many things within that Book that we need to do daily besides obeying the Commandments. Having charity towards others. Love others as you love yourself.

1st John 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

It is new only in the sense that with the presence of our Lord we could add the commandment of brotherly love to the other ten.

1st John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

Satan loves to work with people that hate other people. He’ll get into your brain and rehash things over and over again. It’s easy to forgive someone for something they’ve done, if you like them; it’s really hard to do it when you don’t like them.

Especially when you see them every day at work or at the kid’s soccer game. Forgiveness is a frame of mind, it’s looking at that person and not feeling the resentment or the hurt feelings all over again.

And you can get people on your side of the argument, coworkers, friends or family, and they’ll make you feel that you were in the right and all that, but just ask the Lord to help you get over it and then put it out of your mind as quickly as possible. It’s the effort that makes our Lord believe that you’re sincere about not carrying a grudge.

1st John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

If you love this person or that person, most times you’ll not take offense too quickly at something they might do or say, and you keep the good feelings within you.

1st John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

But when hatred enters into you, you can almost see the darkness surround you and before you know it, if you let it get out of hand, you can do some terrible things on the spur of the moment and it’s at that time that Satan owns your soul.

There’s a lot of people sitting in prison today that wished that they had just taken that extra second to slow down and they didn’t. Satan loves to see people sitting in jail because that environment fosters hate and resentment.

I think that’s the reason that a lot of people find Christ in that place. I know that people make fun of a jailhouse-Christian but there truly are some that go to Him and do change their lives.

Imagine yourself in that position. You called yourself a Christian before you screwed up, can you find the Lord behind those bars again?

1st John 2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

John continues with the same thought of the new commandment of brotherly love. It was the love of our Lord towards all of us that facilitated His death on the cross. But it’s all for naught if you don’t believe in Him and walk in Him.

Forgiveness of sin depends on your walk with Him. If you don’t live your life with goodness and love in your heart, which is light, and you continue to harbor hate and resentment, which is the darkness, you won’t get forgiveness.

Because of our Father’s love for all of His created souls, it was necessary for a Savior to take on the sins of all mankind because, according to His Overall Plan, Satan would be allowed to tempt all of us without restriction.

The weight of those sins upon our Lord was apparent during the latter hours of His life, as He struggled and wept and asked the Father if there was any other way that this could be done, but He knew that there wasn’t. That cup must be poured out.

Ref: Matthew 26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. KJV

It’s even written that His sweat was as drops of blood as He prayed in the Garden:

Ref: Luke 22:44  And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. KJV

No one had touched Him, physically, at this point, so the agony that He was experiencing was the heaviness of the sins of the world, all tied up in one complete bundle. Why did those sins affect Him so terribly?

Because He was pure and without blemish, our sins were like acid on His soul and spirit. They weighed on Him heavily.

And so-called Christians get up every Sunday morning, put on their finest clothes, not wanting anyone to talk about them behind their back because of how they look, smell or dress, and go to a church that teaches heretical practices, such as the rapture theory, the any-moment, and fly-away doctrines.

Heaven help us all if one of them should break a finely manicured fake fingernail or scuff their shoe against a concrete parking stop while getting out of their car. And they go in and act so holy, so attentive, with pen and paper in hand, to record the precious words of their preacher.

No need to take notes on the Scripture verses because there won’t be more than one or two.

And they make a mockery of His death, too lazy or ignorant to study the Scriptures for themselves, to see if what is taught there is the truth or not.

I don’t believe that the pain of our sins hurts our Lord any longer, as He sits there on the Father’s right hand because He gave it all for all. It’s up to us now.

We talk about our brave men and women in the military, that come home in caskets, as having given their all for God and country and their countrymen, and you have professional football players making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, even tens of millions of dollars, playing a game, and disrespecting the most precious symbol of freedom to ever fly from a staff above any country on this earth, taking a knee during the national anthem because they feel that they don’t receive the proper respect because of their color or ancestry.

Trust me, every soul on earth has been a slave at one time or another, just look back in history. Some even want reparation for the wrong done to their ancestors hundreds of years ago. And it’s not for pride of ethnic heritage, it’s for money. Plain and simple. Pay me for tragedies that happened 300 years ago, to people that they never even met.

Mankind, today, is a cesspool of perceived hurt feelings, asking how much are you going to pay me to make up for all the wrongs inflicted on me.

Every single piece of information that is necessary for us to go through this life, to live a life that is full and meaningful, to have our Father’s protection over us every single second, and make it into the eternity where we will love and honor and respect our heavenly Father, is written in this book that He gave us.

Every single thing that we need to know is there and all we have to do is pick it up and read it, to learn what it takes to walk in union with Him, and it sits on a shelf, full of dates of family members that have died. They put it aside and depend on some ignoramus, barely understanding more than what their affiliation requires them to teach, to teach them and they go home feeling so satisfied, so holy, so fulfilled.

How that must crush Him. But bear in mind, this one thing….on Judgment Day, there will be no quarter given. Judgment will be fair, swift and complete. And if you chose to follow the pleasures of Satan’s world instead of longing for the love of our Father, then have a good and safe trip into the Lake of Fire.

1st John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

John covers three different classes in that verse: fathers, young men, and children.

I write. John writes as in the present so that the reader will know that what is written is current.

Fathers. Those that are supposed to be wise, obtaining that wisdom through the study of His Word, from which all wisdom comes and without the Holy Spirit, there is no wisdom.

In the Scriptures, Wisdom is presented as a separate entity residing within the Spirit of our Father Himself. Wisdom was with our Father before He created anything.

1st John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Him that is from the beginning. He’s been here from forever. That’s hard for a human mind to understand and accept and many do not accept it. They don’t have the faith that will support that belief.

Again, how do we know Him? By reading about Him, reading the Word of God which tells us all things about Him. And only by this knowledge can we overcome the wicked one.

If we try to overcome Satan and his dominions on our own, he will kick our butts, right out of the gate. It’s on a spiritual level that we deal with Satan and only with the guidance and authority of the Holy Spirit can we even attempt to overcome Satan.

Father gave us power over all of our enemies and that includes Satan, but the origin of that power comes from Jesus Christ and without invoking His name, that power is withheld from us and Satan knows that, and he laughs at those that go up against him without our Lord leading us.

It’s not an earthly power that overcomes Satan and his dominions, it’s the spiritual power of our Lord that does it.

1st John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

It’s a fact that we all love some of the nicer things of the world. Nice clothes, nice cars, nice homes and on it goes but it takes a lot of work to acquire those things, and for the most part, we ignore our Lord as we work our butts off to earn the money to pay for them.

Our kids become used to both parents working five days a week, one or the other sometimes longer. They feel the absence of two loving parents but usually keep it to themselves because they know that both are working to provide them with the best that they can afford.

They get dressed and tromp off to church every Sunday morning, to try to bring our Father into the family life because, as some would put it, the kids need that kind of thing in their lives.

Most nights, after the day has wound down, we tuck them into bed, maybe say a short prayer and life repeats itself the following morning.

Life in America. Sadly, the church doesn’t provide enough truth of our Father’s Word to amount to much of anything, for the children or the parents. In fact, the church usually teaches false traditions that will be hard to remove from the children’s budding minds in later years.

And our Father’s Word falls by the wayside, overrun by Satan’s world and the all-consuming list of unfulfilled desires for worldly things becomes foremost in the mind once again.

1st John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

When it says of the world, it doesn’t necessarily mean Satan, here, but more so the status in life that we have achieved through our hard work, as others look at what we have and compare us to them.

They have a nicer car than we have. They have a nicer house than we have. They go on vacations where we cannot afford to.

It puts me in mind of a bumper sticker that used to be popular some years ago that went: “He who dies with the most toys, wins.” Man, if that didn’t come straight out of Satan’s playbook, I don’t know where it did come from.

And, again, it puts our Father and our spiritual side at the bottom of the things that are important to us.

1st John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

I’ll quote another bumper sticker that used to be popular here…”you never see a U-haul behind a hearse”, meaning that after you spend your whole life trying to accumulate the things of the world, you’re gonna die and leave them all to someone else, if they haven’t worn themselves out, become obsolete, been broken, rusted to pieces or stolen.

And after working all of our lives, we’re all going to pass away and what’s going to be in front of us when that happens? NOTHING. Probably no salvation, much less, rewards of some kind. Why? You spent your whole life trying to please yourself and the world, it was so important to you that you ignored our Father and our Lord, and now your earthly life is over, and you have NOTHING.

All that hard work, all those hours of overtime, all that blood, sweat and tears, all the birthdays of your kids that you missed because “you had to work”, all of that achieved absolutely NOTHING.

     Zippo. Zilch. Nada. Niente'.

1st John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

It is the last time, means that the end is coming shortly. In fact, it’s so close that you might just be here when the archangel Michael is commanded by our Father, to release Satan and his 7000 angles onto this earth, to begin the first of the two tribulations.

Now what are you going to do? You’re not going to die of old age or some disease, you’re going to be standing around when the news comes on and there is something happening over in the Middle East, that you never paid any attention to before, and it’s something about someone looking just like Jesus Christ standing in Jerusalem.

You’ve gone through your life and you didn’t even know that there were other antichrists around you. They were in the form of a man in a fancy suit, with a glibe tongue, telling you that you didn’t have to worry about the Lord coming, you were going to be taken away before that happened, because the rapture would snatch you up and you wouldn’t have to endure any hardships of the end times.

If you had read THE BOOK, you would have known that the rapture theory, the any-moment, and fly-away doctrines were a load of horse manure but then again, you were lazy, you didn’t want to read or study on your own, these false theories and doctrines seemed to make you comfortable and secure, and you didn’t much care if they were true or not.

And now you’ve blown it again.

If you were, you would have listened to that little voice in the back of your mind, the voice of the Holy Spirit, prompting you and telling you that these doctrines were lies but then you really didn’t care, did you?

You paid no attention to an angel that you couldn’t see, that was hopping up and down, banging on your head with a spiritual hammer, stabbing you in the butt with a spiritual poker every time you decided to drink beer and watch TV instead of studying the Book that explains, to your fat, dumb butt, how to achieve eternal life.

1st John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

Even back in John’s time, there were antichrists among them. And just like today, they go out and they preach a gospel that’s not written in the Good Book, they make up some of the things that they preach for their own glory and profit.

Back then they couldn’t stay with the disciples because they taught a different message, they taught one that was full of lies.

Today, these preachers have instant communication around the world through satellites and the internet, and they teach their lies 24/7 and they have millions of people that listen and follow them and contribute to them.

There are some preachers that purchase old sports stadiums, transform them into auditoriums and have 30,000 to 40,000 people there every time they get behind the podium. Do they teach the Word of God? No, they teach prosperity religion and how great you can be as a human being. They teach a doctrine of universalism.

To heck with humbling yourself before the Living God. God’s going to be the one that’s going to make you rich and famous. They’re antichrists, albeit, little antichrists, compared to the one that’s soon coming.

1st John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

     What is this word unction?

Unction_ NT:5545 chrisma (khris'-mah); from NT:5548; an unguent or smearing, i.e. (figuratively) the special endowment ("chrism") of the Holy Spirit: KJV - anointing, unction.

We have the ability to see these antichrists, these false preachers, for what they truly are if we just listen to the Holy Spirit, and that unction comes forth as understanding or discernment, but you have to believe and follow Him to receive it.

1st John 2:21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

John isn’t telling us anything that we don’t already know. We know what the truth is and therefore should be able to see a lie for what it is. You cannot have the truth and a lie in the same statement.

I personally don’t believe that everyone who says that they believe in the rapture theory is telling the truth. I don’t believe it. I think that they have convinced themselves that it’s the truth because they are afraid of the alternative: having to go through the situations described in Revelation.

The beasts, the fire and brimstone, blood running high in the streets and all that. Many preachers, these antichrists, keep their followers, their congregation, through the use of fear and because we all have an inherent desire for self-preservation, being taken away from all this carnage before it begins to happen, the rapture theory makes them feel safe and comfortable.

The downside of it all is that they’re not going anywhere, and they will still be here for that tribulation and because they have hidden their head in spiritual sand and not learned that Revelation is full of symbolism, they will ultimately worship the false messiah and that is heartbreaking.

It’s ignorance of our Father’s Word because all they had to do was learn the truth and have that seal of God in their forehead and not one hair on their head would have been harmed.

Ref: Revelation 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. KJV

And you can attribute that to the false teachings of these insidious antichrists, these preachers that look and sound so holy.

Having them face judgment for their lies is little consolation for the thousands and millions of souls that have been deceived by them.

1st John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Godless, faithless men and women of Satan’s world.

1st John 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Salvation can only be obtained by believing that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and if you believe that you must also believe in the Father. Denying one or the other will keep you from eternal salvation.

1st John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

Hold that truth deep within your heart and don’t let anyone try to take that away from you.

1st John 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

What was that promise again? Even eternal life. If you believe in the Father and you believe that His Son died on the cross and was crucified for the past, present and future sins of all mankind, then and only then, will you have eternal life.

1st John 2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

     What is this word seduce?

Seduce_NT:4105 planao (plan-ah'-o); from NT:4106; to (properly, cause to) roam (from safety, truth, or virtue): KJV - go astray, deceive, err, seduce, wander, be out of the way.

Root Word_ NT:4106 plane (plan'-ay); feminine of NT:4108 (as abstractly); objectively, fraudulence; subjectively, a straying from orthodoxy or piety: KJV - deceit, to deceive, delusion, error.

The primary objective of these antichrists…to keep you away from the truth, to cause you to lose your faith, to replace the truth with falseness.

The primary objective of John, in this chapter, is to point that out to you, to make you familiar with them.

Don’t let anyone steal your salvation away from you nor let anyone prevent you from achieving your salvation before you even receive it. And you accomplish that by not listening to the religious lies of established religion and if that sounds like I’m including all churches, then let the ones that do teach the truth be not offended.

What is the standard that our Father gave to us concerning churches and what they teach? Of the seven churches in Revelation, there were only two that Father was completely satisfied with and they are Philadelphia and Smyrna. The others He was somewhat pleased with, meaning that they did a little good but not enough to be sanctioned completely by Him.

And what did these two churches teach? They taught who the Kenites were, who the sons of Cain were. They taught about the synagogue of Satan. Does your church teach you about the Kenites?

Of the church of Smyrna Father said this:

Ref: Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. KJV

Father calls these churches, Satan’s church.

Of the church of Philadelphia Father said this:

Ref: Revelation 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. KJV

I went to church for the better part of my life and I never heard about the Kenites, the sons of Cain, until I read and understood the book of Revelation. And these antichrist-preachers will never teach you about them. In fact, they will probably never teach you the book of Revelation.

1st John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

This word anointing is the same word as unction used earlier.

Anointing_NT:5545 chrisma (khris'-mah); from NT:5548; an unguent or smearing, i.e. (figuratively) the special endowment ("chrism") of the Holy Spirit: KJV - anointing, unction.

When Father opens your spiritual eyes and ears you have the ability of perception, of discernment and when that truth is opened up to you, you don’t need some man standing behind a pulpit teaching you his version of the truth.

1st John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

Live your life in Him, as though He were going to return tomorrow and have the confidence that the truth that you have learned cannot be taken away or shaken by the lies of others. Be steadfast in your belief and you will not be ashamed when He actually does return.

1st John 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. KJV

Don’t cheat or take shortcuts as others do. If you call yourself a Christian, then adhere to the standards required by our Lord, so that others don’t see you as two-faced. Proclaiming one thing while living your life differently.

I don’t care what anybody says…life in these earthly bodies is tough most times. So much to do and so little time to do it. Just make sure that what time you do dedicate to studying and understanding this letter that our Father has written to us, is not corrupted by the lies of antichrists that stand up every Sunday morning, giving us their version of the truth, either from their own minds or the religious organizations that they represent.

It’s your soul. Don’t let someone else send it to the Lake of Fire.
