In this chapter, we have the 12th and 13th of 51 prophecies, the 12th beginning with verse 1 and the 13th beginning with verse 5
Father continues to tell Judah that if they don’t change their ways that they will experience destruction and captivity. But Judah holds fast to the words of their false prophets and not the words of Father’s true prophet, Jeremiah.
Would we have treated Jeremiah any differently today? I hardly think so. John the Baptist prophesied the coming of our Lord and ended up having his head cut off and served on a platter.
Ezekiel ended up being thrown into a well, taken out, and then stoned to death by the people of Jerusalem.
Isaiah ended up being killed by the King of Judah, Manasseh, by being sawn through with a wood saw.
We may not have killed Jeremiah, but we would have certainly ridiculed him, the government-run news media would have persecuted him, and the so-called churches would have banned him from their houses of Beth-Aven. Their houses of NOTHING.
“Don’t bring that nonsense into our church, we KNOW the right way to heaven. The church fathers have told us so.”
So, having said that, verse 1. Father is going to begin this chapter with an analogy of a potter.
Jeremiah 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
Father speaks to Jeremiah once more…
Jeremiah 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
Head on down the road to the potter’s house, Jeremiah, and I will speak to you when you get there.
Father likes to use analogies to explain things to us and He uses people and nature and agriculture, things that we can relate to and SEE and FEEL with our own hands, to make it easier for us to understand the message that He’s trying to give to us.
Jeremiah 18:3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
The potter was already working on a piece, Jeremiah could see it spinning on the wheel. This word “wheel” is pretty interesting. In the Hebrew its ‘oben.
✡ Wheel_OT:70 'oben (o'ben); from the same as OT:68; a pair of stones (only dual); a potter's wheel or a midwife's stool (consisting alike of two horizontal disks with a support between):
You’ll notice that it’s a pair of stone wheels. ‘Eben is singular and is only one wheel or one stone.
✡ Wheel_ OT:68 'eben (eh'-ben); from the root of OT:1129 through the meaning to build; a stone:
A single wheel or stone. The potters' lathe consisted of a large stone, or wheel, and a smaller one. The smaller one was placed on top of the larger and as they spun the potter would do his work.
Jeremiah 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
The vessel, of which its shape is not described, was not to the potter’s liking, so he made another. Apparently, the potter considered it to be inferior to what he was capable of making.
Jeremiah 18:5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Father begins His analogy.
Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Did you catch what was said there? This entire book is written to Judah, the House of Judah, and yet Father addresses the House of ISRAEL? What He did by doing that is that He is including ALL of Israel here. Both Houses.
Do you remember how Father created the 8th-day creation, the Hebrew race, to begin with?
✡ Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. KJV
As the potter forms and shapes a piece of clay into a pot or a cup or a saucer, so Father did when He formed Adam on that 8th day, from the dust of the ground. (See the analogy here?)
If Father had been dissatisfied with that form, that man, He COULD have started over and created, formed, a different one, BUT HE NEVER DOES THAT. He doesn’t destroy a creation just because He is dissatisfied with the outcome.
What He DOES do is try to change that creation from within, to make a new man or woman out of the original through loving and worshipping Him. The sooner that we realize that He is in control, sitting on that Throne, the better off we’ll be and realize that things HAVE to be done HIS way and not ours if you want to reach the eternity with Him.
We really have no choice in the matter. Live according to mans’ laws and rules, have fun in Satan’s dominion, ignore the Father and His Letter to us, and walk into the Lake of Fire along with Satan.
On the other hand, live according to FATHER’S laws and Commandments, enjoy life in these earthly bodies, receive His blessings, and have a wonderful eternity with Him.
Pretty simple, huh? So why aren’t you doing that?
Jeremiah 18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
He can instantly, the Hebrew has it as a “wink of an eye”, He can change the course of nations and kingdoms. He can build them up and He can tear them down. Sometimes THEY don’t have any choice in the matter either.
Like him or hate him, I firmly believe that President Trump is where he is because it’s our Father’s Plan that he be exactly where he is, at this point in time. And it’s driving the Democratic Communist Party absolutely crazy. They cling to the world, to the possibility of having extreme power and whosoever among them is alive at the time of the tribulation of Satan/Antichrist, will beg and grovel to be a part of his power structure.
They will never realize that he is a fake.
Jeremiah 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
Nothing complicated here. Father simply states that if a nation, the leaders that run that nation, not necessarily the people in it, although here in this chapter the PEOPLE are the subject, if they change their mindset and come back to Him, all the punishment that they WERE to receive will be done away with.
He’ll forget about it entirely. But they need to hold true to the reformation, don’t do it just to get Father off your back and then return shortly to their evil ways.
Jeremiah 18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
He can change things in a blink of an eye. Just so you know, how fast is a blink of an eye? It’s about 300-400 milliseconds or 3/10ths to 4/10ths of a second. Now you know.
He can establish a nation, plant it, and build it into a superpower if He so chooses.
Jeremiah 18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
BUT, if they don’t change the way that they live, OR they go back to living the way that almost brought judgment on them, then all bets are off. The chances of punishment return and it might not be so easy to make Him change His mind a second time.
Jeremiah 18:11 Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
He’s giving Judah and Jerusalem every possible chance to reform themselves.
His grace and mercy are limitless, in most cases, but you can only turn your back on Him a certain number of times before He will do something about it. And He DOES something about it because He loves them, He wants to release Satan’s’ hold on them, and He wants them to come back to Him.
Frame means to mold or configure, as the potter was doing earlier.
✡ Frame_ OT:3335 yatsar (yaw-tsar'); probably identical with OT:3334 (through the squeezing into shape); ([compare OT:3331]); to mould into a form; especially as a potter; figuratively, to determine (i.e. form a resolution):
He will form evil against them through Nebuchadnezzar and his army.
Devise means to fabricate or weave.
Device means a machine or intention.
Much the same as with Pharaoh in Egypt, when Moses and Aaron were sent to convince him to release the Children, Father intervened and hardened Pharaoh’s heart, in essence, He overrode Pharaoh’s free will and MADE him stand firm AGAINST the words of Moses.
King Nebuchadnezzar will be used by our Father to chastise Judah but later on, he will become an advocate of our Father.
Is Father moving “chess pieces” around to make sure that His Plan turns out exactly as He wants it to? YES. That’s exactly right but through it all, we still retain our individual free will. Father will only use “chess pieces” if the soul and spirit of that person has overcome in the first heaven/earth age and has, therefore, be justified to our Fathers’ satisfaction.
He will NOT interfere in a person’s life to its detriment so there is absolutely no opportunity for a soul to stand before Him, on Judgment Day, and say:
“You interfered in my life and now you need to give me some slack on this punishment for that reason.”
That scenario will NEVER, NEVER happen.
Jeremiah 18:12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
This is the people speaking. They will not listen to the words of Jeremiah and change, therefore all hope is gone. They will continue to do the same offenses that our Father hates and follow the words of their false prophets.
The people spoke similar responses back in the book of Isaiah….
✡ Isaiah 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
“We don’t want to hear the truth, and if truth is what you have, then keep it within yourself and tell us smooth and sweet things. Don’t talk about destruction and captivity, talk about the good times to come.”
Trouble is, there are no good times to come until AFTER the captivity is complete.
✡ Isaiah 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. KJV
They won’t listen to Jeremiah at all, in fact, tell the Holy Spirit to go to someone else because we’re going to continue living the way that we want to and if there are violations of His laws that we have yet to break, then our evil heart will soon think of them.
Wow. Talk about thumbing your nose at the Father…..
I hope that you never get so far into a worldly cesspool that you begin to think that way but, sadly, drugs and alcohol will put you there quickly. What started as a great and mellow high soon turns into the ravages of Satan himself.
And while you’re on some drug/alcohol high, look over towards the dark corner of the room that you’re in and see if you can see Satan casually leaning up against the wall, content that he has you for now and he’ll work on forever later.
People don't realize it but Satan hates every soul that loves the Father and if you want to open that door and dance with him, be warned that he has the power of a million angels, demonic angels, at his disposal and he can wreak more havoc in your life than Father ever will.
Jeremiah 18:13 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
Even though the heathen worship false gods, they do stay true to them, but Judah is mocking and denying their TRUE God in favor of worshipping a FALSE god.
“Well, these sure are a bunch of despicable people.”
Hold on there, pumpkin-head. Human nature never changes, which means we do the same thing today. Difference is nobody is taking notes on what YOU do and writing in a Book.
What are they telling you in your church? Sweet, smooth messages, telling you that everything is going to be alright? Things like….
“Once saved, always saved.” LIE. A soul can accumulate so many sins over a period of time that without repentance, those sins will keep you out of the eternity.
There’s also the Apostasy of the end time, that St. Paul spoke of, where so-called “devout” Christians will transfer their belief in the True Christ over to the Fake christ because they don’t know the difference.
“We’ll be raptured out of here before the really bad stuff starts.” LIE. There is no rapture OF THE SAINTS. Whoever is alive on this earth when Satan begins his five-month tribulation, will STAY ON THIS EARTH, in a flesh and blood body, until the Lord returns, after those five months.
That includes you, pumpkin-head. Now, what are you going to do?
Jeremiah 18:14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
This will be better understood when you know that “Lebanon” means “snow mountain” because, for most of the year, there is snow on the peaks of this range.
Rock of the field is a poetical name for Lebanon, although the words themselves can be used as a contrast to the cool waters coming down from the melting snow of the mountains. The rocks of the field indicating dry and dusty conditions.
The underlying meaning is that would Judah leave the True Living Waters of spiritual life for something that is a fake? Some false god? Some false preacher?
Jeremiah 18:15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
The Gentile nations didn’t know all that much about the Father, but Judah certainly did and when they turned away from Him, Father termed it as forgotten. They don’t even think about Him anymore because of their love for their idolatrous ways.
Their “path of life” is totally different from what the Father expects of them.
In a way not cast up. A way that wasn’t prepared by past saints. There is no precedent for them finding new ways of worshipping.
Jeremiah 18:16 To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.
And a perpetual hissing. Hissing is used here as a figure of speech called a Metonymy which is using one word for another, for effect. Hissing is kind of a Bronx cheer, which was heard many times, years ago, at Yankee baseball games when they weren’t winning. The word hissing is used six times throughout this book.
Eventually, there won’t be much left of Jerusalem or the people in it. The city will be destroyed, and the people taken captive. But there will still be a remnant left behind and they will be left there on purpose by Nebuchadnezzar.
There is no definitive reason for doing that, but it’s thought that the people left were poor, not kings and princes, and he didn’t want another group of people to come in and settle there.
✡ 2nd Kings 24:14 And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land. KJV
Travelers will pass by and see the carnage and shake their heads in disbelief because of what Jerusalem used to be.
Jeremiah 18:17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy. They’re not going to be organized, there will be no rank and file among their army, they will run hither and thither, not knowing which way to go.
I will shew them the back, and not the face. He's going to look at them, neither with anger nor with pity. His ears will be deaf to their cries and prayers. He will not go before them to give them the victory. When Father turns His face away from you, you are in a heap of trouble.
Why? Because that would defeat Father’s entire purpose of chastisement and captivity. Why would He allow them to have a victory over this army? It ain’t gonna happen.
Jeremiah 18:18 Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
Jeremiah has told them that the Father has devised devices against THEM, as He did in verse 11, so now they’re going to devise devices against JEREMIAH. Nice people.
For the law shall not perish from the priest. We’ll listen to our own priests because we like what he says and not what Jeremiah says.
Come, and let us smite him with the tongue. They’re going to say every bad thing about Jeremiah, they’re going to trash his name, they might even say a few things about his momma. Remember, a prophet has no respect among his own people.
✡ Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
✡ Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. KJV
They won’t listen to his words, but they might appreciate it if he healed the sick.
And let us not give heed to any of his words. We’re not going to listen to him, we’ll listen to our own false prophets. I think that somewhere down the line that the people have forgotten that the words that Jeremiah speaks are not his own, but come from the Father.
Jeremiah 18:19 Give heed to me, O Lord, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
Give heed to me, Father, because I am speaking YOUR words to them.
Hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
Listen to what they’re saying about me, Father.
Jeremiah 18:20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
Remember, Father, that YOU’RE the one that had me speak these words to YOUR people and now they want to dig a grave and put ME in it.
All I did was speak to them and try to get You to give them some slack, to turn your anger away from them.
Jeremiah 18:21 Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
It would be easy to say that Jeremiah wants revenge on these people for how they are treating them but actually, it’s coming down to the time when talking is about to be over. It’s almost time for action.
Jeremiah 18:22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
Let a cry be heard from their houses. From the wives and mothers of the slain.
If they don’t believe the words of Jeremiah, surely, they will be surprised when the army comes over the horizon. They will soon forget about their anger towards Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 18:23 Yet, Lord, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger. KJV
Jeremiah need not make this prayer because the captivity and the destruction will be coming forthwith.
Is there a lot of rocks and snares in your life? Maybe things aren’t going as smooth as you would like them to be? No doubt some of this is caused by our own actions but STILL, you can take Satan and his dominion out of the situation by repenting FIRST, and then asking Father, through the blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to rid yourself of Satan and his evil spirits and things will smooth out a little at a time.
You take care of things on your end and let Father take care of things on His end. Just believe that He will do it. It's called faith.
