The Book of Jeremiah

Chapter 2

Prophesies Addressed to the Jews

Father addresses this chapter to His own people, the Jews. He will remind them of all the good blessings He had poured out on them, how He forgave them time after time for their sinful nature, all the while listening to them as they denied that they had ever sinned at all.

He knows everything that we have done, we do nothing in secret, and denying that we have sinned only slaps Him in the face with our impudence.

     Alright, chapter 2.

Jeremiah 2:1 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

This will be the 4th prophecy. in a land that was not sown.

Jeremiah 2:2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the Lord; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem. Jeremiah is told to go to Jerusalem, so he must still be at Anathoth at this time.

The kindness of thy youth. This is not necessarily kindness from the people towards our Father, but the reverse. It was kindness given by Him to His people. From the time of the exodus out of Egypt, as they wandered around in the wilderness, they complained constantly, they sinned continually.

And Father forgave them over and over again. He does the same for us today.

In a land that was not sown. There was nothing out there in the wilderness to eat, they had to depend on Him for their food. There were no crops to harvest, it was all barren desert, and He fed them with manna and quail during that entire period.

If you’ll remember, they all got tired of eating manna, complained constantly that they had it better back in Egypt, and they kept crying for meat. So, Father gave them meat.

An east wind began to blow, and the sky became dark with millions of quail, and when they flew directly over the crowd of people, about 3 million strong, they fell immediately to the ground. When it finally stopped they were chest-high in dead quail and it extended outside the group for a mile so that none could escape.

Even "fast Eddie" couldn't outrun this one.

They wanted meat, He gave them meat.

Jeremiah 2:3 Israel was holiness unto the Lord, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the Lord.

Israel was holiness unto the Lord. That is, they were consecrated to Him. Father loved these people because through them would come the Messiah, His Son.

All that devour him shall offend. This is not to be taken literally. To devour them would be like taking them into their culture, their religious ways, and corrupting them. And whoever does that will pay a high price for it.

Even today, Christians are fraught with evil on all sides, from the government in Washington D.C. to the preacher at a local church. Lies and corruption on one end and lies and religious perversity on the other.

And if you don’t figure things out on your own, you’re going to be in real trouble, because those in power keep changing the rules to suit themselves. Do you realize that the Green New Deal, free college for all, free medical coverage for all, elimination of all tuition debt, is going to KILL this country?

It’s socialism, pure and simple, and twenty Democratic hopefuls stand up there behind the podiums and proclaim that all of these programs are a God-given right for the people.

“Well, we’ll let the rich and wealthy pay for it.”

Even THEY don’t have that much money.

Jeremiah 2:4 Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

The book of Jeremiah is written to Judah but here it includes EVERYONE.

Jeremiah 2:5 Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

Father asks them what has He done to them to justify their ignoring Him, turning their back on Him? The answer is simple: HE hasn’t done anything to them except bless them and forgive them, but THEY like to live the ways of the heathen, they don’t want to follow His commandments because it’s no FUN.

So, they shut Him out, pretend that He doesn’t exist and party 24/7. Let’s get drunk, have an orgy, and enjoy ourselves. Throw in some drugs too. What? Do you think that using drugs to get high is something new?

There is evidence that alcohol was used as far back as 6600-7000 B.C. Hallucinogens as far back as 5600-8600 B.C. Opium 4000 B.C and tobacco 2000 B.C.

Many of them go to some church where they make up their own rules and ignore the commandments and instructions of our Father. Why do they do that? They want their ears tickled. They want to hear something that’s new and exciting. And they don’t mind at all if they’re lied to, to obtain that result.

2nd Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; KJV

Make us happy today and screw tomorrow. I’ll get into heaven by the skin of my teeth and that’s all I care about. Guess what? You don’t have skin on your teeth, so even that phrase is a lie.

Jeremiah 2:6 Neither said they, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

Father is saying that it seems to Him that they forgot that it was HE that had Moses take them out of bondage in Egypt. It was HE that took care of them for forty years in a wilderness, feeding them, making sure that their clothes and sandals NEVER wore out during that time.

A cloud that led them by day and a fire in the sky by night. Without our Father, they would have surely died from starvation and drought. They don’t think about Him nor what He has done for them.

What about you? Other than taking the time to read this, when was the last time that you thanked Him for all that He has done for you? It’s too easy to get into a rut, a daily routine that rarely changes.

And of the shadow of death. Deep spiritual darkness.

Jeremiah 2:7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

When they finally got to the end of the forty years, the land of Canaan lying before them, they didn’t have to start from scratch, they didn’t have to plant seeds and wait months for the harvest. They didn’t have to plant seedlings and wait twenty years for that fruit tree to bear.

The land was already filled with houses and vineyards and fruit trees full of fruit. Gardens full of vegetables, vats full of wine. All they had to do was kill the residents thereof because they were hybrids, a mix of flesh and blood and spiritual bodies.

And what did they do? Instead of killing them off, they made deals and contracts with them. They couldn’t do one thing that Father asked them to do.

Jeremiah 2:8 The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

Everybody had abandoned Him. The priests, the judges, the local preachers, and the prophets. No one paid one whit of attention to him or gave even one ounce of love to Him. Instead, they lived and acted like a bunch of heathens.

Chipping rocks into godless forms, carving wood into a lifeless god, and then getting down on their knees and worshipping them. How retarded is that?

Psalms 115:4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

Psalms 115:5 They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:

Psalms 115:6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:

Psalms 115:7 They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

Psalms 115:8 They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. KJV

Even when St. Paul was setting up the church there were heretical teachings going on even then. Today, some churches have a safety net to make sure that people don’t worry too much about getting into heaven and it’s called the rapture theory.

“You don’t have to study God’s Word because you’re going to be raptured out of here before all the bad stuff starts to happen.”

"Phew! That sure takes a load off of my mind."

     Another lie.

Jeremiah 2:9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the Lord, and with your children's children will I plead.

Children's children. In the Interlinear Bible, it’s sons’ sons.

Children_ OT:1121 ben (bane); from OT:1129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition, etc., [like OT:1, OT:251, etc.]):

This word plead doesn’t mean that He will get down on His knees and beg you to come back to him, no, it’s much more emphatic than that…

Plead_ OT:7378 riyb (reeb); or ruwb (roob); a primitive root; properly, to toss, i.e. grapple; mostly figuratively, to wrangle, i.e. hold a controversy; (by implication) to defend:

He’s going to grapple and wrangle you away from the grasp of Satan because when you desert HIM, that’s when Satan grabs YOU. There have been times when He has used other nations to come against Israel and nearly destroy them before they would repent of their ways.

Normally, we don't take the time to see the overall picture, the overall Plan, because we’re too busy living our lives, raising our kids, working, and so on. And going to church once a week, 52 times a year, is almost a waste of time. Are you ever taught anything by sitting there for an hour while listening to the words of some man or woman?

Before you hooked up with this website, did you know about the three heaven/earth ages? Probably not, and how basic that is to understanding His overall Plan.

And He will continue to plead with every generation that comes forth. Sons’ son.

Jeremiah 2:10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

Take a look at the people over there in Chittim and Kedar. Do you see them abandoning THEIR gods?

Chittim and Kedar are the East and West limits of the pagan nations and although they don’t worship our Father, they still hold true to their beliefs, even though their god is a fake god. The point is, fake or true, they never abandon their own god, as Israel did with the Father.

Jeremiah 2:11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

Later on, when we get to chapter 35, we will read of the Kenites and their desire to please Satan through Jonadab, the Rechabite. They were told to drink no wine, nor build houses and many other things and they never deviated from those instructions. They didn’t abandon Jonadab or Satan.

Jeremiah 35:18 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:

Jeremiah 35:19 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever. KJV

Even though the Kenites are of Satan, Father still had to point out that they obeyed him explicitly and He promised them that they would always have someone that will stand before Him, to represent them, because of that. Father respects loyalty.

Jeremiah 2:12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord.

His wrath is building because if the people don’t turn themselves around and repent there WILL be hell to pay.

     Jeremiah 2:13 For my people have committed two evils;

They have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, the first evil. Christ is the living water through which our souls can be quenched. A fountain means that the waters are continually restored or refreshed.

And hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water, the second evil. A cistern is a vessel that holds water and a broken one is completely useless. A cistern does not restore the water that has been removed, something else must do the restoring.

What is this saying? The living water from our Lord will never run out. He is the fountain of life. The cistern, on the other hand, is like a false god or an idol. You cannot receive anything from it and if it’s broken, then there’s nothing in it anyway.

A cistern is like a good ‘ole preacher, standing up there, speaking his own words or the words of some religious system. They’re worthless.

Jeremiah 2:14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

Is Israel a servant? That’s the ten Tribes. Are they less than Judah, the house of Judah?

Why is he spoiled? When Father takes care of you and does everything for you, you end up being spoiled.

Jeremiah 2:15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

When you ignore our Father, that leaves the door wide open for Satan to come in and wreak havoc in your life. And he will make it seem so sweet and appealing that you’ll welcome him in with open arms.

Jeremiah 2:16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

Noph, today called Memphis, is in the southern part of Egypt, and Tahapanes are used here to encompass all of Egypt. Israel constantly went to Egypt for help and support, militarily and financially, instead of putting their faith and trust in our Father. They would rather trust a bunch of MEN rather than the Creator of all of us.

Jeremiah 2:17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he led thee by the way?

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself. Have you not brought this on yourself, Israel? You forgot about and ignored the God that safely brought you out of bondage to the Egyptians, showing you the way and protecting you.

Jeremiah 2:18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

You can drink out of the Nile or out of the Euphrates, it doesn’t matter, is what Father is saying here. These are the waters for men, our Lord has waters for our soul and it will never run out, His cistern will never break, and all we have to do is believe and partake of it.

Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.

Forsake our Father and your own sin will bring you down. And because of that, you asked for it and boy are you going to get it.

This word fear means to revere or love. They love themselves more than they love the Lord God.

Father is really upset with them and, normally, if you love Him and do things His way, you’ll probably be blessed for doing so. If you turn away from Him, ignore His laws and commandments, He’ll take it for a while and then His anger erupts and then things may not go all that well for you for a while.

Jeremiah 2:20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

He has broken the yoke of slavery, broken the yoke of the captivities. And He listened to you wail and cry and when He figured that you might have learned a lesson from it, He blesses you and what happens next? They build their places of worship on some high hill, their ben-aven, and begin carving male-oriented idols in the forest, under the green trees.

Jeremiah 2:21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

Father told them about it back in the book of Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy 32:32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:

Deuteronomy 32:33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps. KJV

That vine today is our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the vine, we are the branches and Father is the pruner. It is He that cuts off the branches that profit little.

Jeremiah 2:22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.

You can scrub your body down with nitre, which is potash, and use a lot of soap, a vegetable alkali obtained by burning the plant, you will not be able to remove the sins that He sees. Why? Because they’re on the inside, on your spiritual soul.

     Jeremiah 2:23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

How can you say that you are without sin? You cannot because I see it.

Thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways. You’re like a camel in heat, going from this one to that one. Chasing new and exciting things in your church, looking for lies that will tickle your ears and give you a false sense of hope because you’re too lazy to study on your own.

Jeremiah 2:24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

When she comes into heat each month she is out of control. The males don’t have to weary themselves trying to find her, she will find them.

Do you get the point here? You live your life as YOU want to. Some church telling you that you don’t have to study the Word of God because you’re going to be raptured out of here before the bad stuff begins.

You don’t seek the Father, you search for and find the things that make this flesh body happy, and sex is at the top of the list. And you don’t care whom you do it with. A spiritual whore in heat.

Father tells it like it is sometimes because He loves you and He wants you to love Him back.

Jeremiah 2:25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

The people are saying here that they cannot help themselves. They have committed adultery with strangers and cannot stop themselves from doing so again and when Father hears that it falls on deaf ears because of what’s written in 1st Corinthians……..

1st Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. KJV

This applies to ALL human beings, since the creation of the sixth-day peoples. He can control what level of temptation you can handle. So, all is not lost, Satan cannot tempt you to the point of no return.

What it takes on YOUR part is self-control, which many do not have because of the ultimate pleasure derived from the sin.

Jeremiah 2:26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

A thief will always attempt to show himself as strong and self-reliant but when his sins are found out he becomes embarrassed.

So is the house of Israel ashamed. Of their idolatry, worshipping false gods, listening to small antichrists, fake preachers.

Jeremiah 2:27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

Stock is a piece of wood and they say to it…"you are my father". And to a rock, they say to it…"you have brought me out of trouble."

But to their REAL Father, they turn their backs to Him and when they get into trouble will say….oh, please help us and wonder why He doesn’t.

“God won’t listen to my prayer so therefore He doesn’t exist.”

But in the time of their trouble, they will say, Arise, and save us. People go for years, never connecting with or praying to Him, and when they get their butt in a real jam, they pray to Him and wonder why He doesn’t answer them. Well, see that rock over there? Go pray to it. See that stone over there in that ditch? Pray to it and see what you get. You’ll get NOTHING.

But humble yourself, get down on your knees, repent of your sins, and He will listen. That rock or stone won’t even do that.

Jeremiah 2:28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

For according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah. They’ve got a different god in every city. Paul was teaching in Mars Hill one time and had this to say…

Acts 17:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Acts 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. KJV

They worshipped everything from flies to frogs, and just in case they missed one, they had a church dedicated to the UNKNOWN GOD.

If a person has never been exposed to the truth of our Fathers’ Word, then there is reason to be lenient, but if you do know the truth and you STILL listen to some bag of wind behind that pulpit, preaching the words of some religious system, that simply means that you are retarded.

Don’t blame Satan, or the preacher, or some stone. Blame yourself. You’re stupid.

Jeremiah 2:29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.

They haven’t repented of their transgressions, their sins, and yet they go to Him and want Him to help them.

2nd Corinthians 12:21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed. KJV

     Verse 30.

Jeremiah 2:30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath

Father has chastised them with no result, there was no evidence of any change of heart. Isaiah wrote concerning this…

Isaiah 1:5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

Why should the Father punish them more than He already has? The more correction they receive, the more obstinate they become.

Isaiah 1:6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. KJV

It’s not just the mind that is sick, it’s the whole body.

Jeremiah 2:31 O generation, see ye the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness?      Wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? Have I deprived them of all that is good?

A land of darkness? A land of misery and emptiness, a Godless land?

We are lords; we will come no more unto thee? You gave us dominion over all things on this earth and we will find our own way. They think that they no longer need our Father.

Human life knows not what desolation can be when the Creator withdraws and leaves us to our own pleasures and desires. It will transcend into total moral decay and chaos. We are leaning that way today, even under His watchful eye.

Jeremiah 2:32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

Can a maid forget her ornaments. Of which she is rightly proud.

Or a bride her attire? Will she forget how beautiful she looked in her wedding gown? These are things of the world that we hold near and dear, as memories from long ago, and yet we forget about Father? How can that be?

Jeremiah 2:33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

The Targum has it as such….

“Why dost thou make thy way beautiful, to procure loves (or lovers) to be joined to the people?''

In other words, Israel has gone into the heathen nations and taught them the worst of her ways.

Jeremiah 2:34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

Who are these innocents? The babies that were sacrificed to the idol Molech.

Jeremiah 2:35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

The people stand there, justifying themselves in front of our Father, proclaiming their innocence. They forget that Father knows and sees all that we do. Israel has acted as a harlot throughout this whole chapter, her heart hardened to the point that she must believe her own lies of proclaimed innocence.

Jeremiah 2:36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

You ran to and fro, from Egypt to Assyria, seeking their protection when you had the ultimate protection standing before you.

Jeremiah 2:37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the Lord hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them. KJV

Egypt and Assyria will not help you, and you’ll put your hands on your head as a woman in despair, and you will gain nothing from it.

What happens when you go to some church and listen to the nonsense that’s preached there? You’re telling the Father that you would rather listen to the words of men rather than His Words.

I know that all churches are not that way. but it sure seems so. Some of these preachers are taught in seminary school that if they teach chapter by chapter and verse by verse, they will lose the congregation. They don’t have the attention span to deal with it.

No, there has to be diversity and programs and never teach above a 5th-grade level. It’s all in keeping the tithe coming in to pay the bills. Don’t confuse them with the truth because they are so indoctrinated in the lies of the rapture and the any-moment doctrines, speaking in tongues and all that other nonsense, that they wouldn’t believe the truth anyway.
