The Book of Revelation

Bible Study-REV-APO

Today we’re going to take things right down to where the rubber meets the road. There is a lot to absorb when studying Revelation and maybe it seems a little overwhelming at times. Personally, I have a really bad memory so I’m forced to have piles of notes around me whenever I sit down to write.

I could certainly not give a public speech because I would have to tote all these notes with me and the podium wouldn’t be large enough to hold all of them and they’d be falling all around me…..maybe its best this way. Keeps me from getting the big head and thinking of myself as some

hot-shot Bible teacher.

There are only two things that you really need to remember concerning the end-times and the return of our Lord and Savior and you can find them at the beginning of the 2nd chapter of 2nd Thessalonians, so let’s go there. Five little ‘ole verses that can clarify the truth of His return and when it will happen.

Ref: 2nd Thessalonians 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, KJV

St. Paul is writing to the people of the church of the Thessalonia concerning the FUTURE coming or return of our Lord and HOW we will all gather back to Him.

Ref: 2nd Thessalonians 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. KJV

In Paul’s first letter to these people, Satan, no doubt, was working amongst them, playing around with their minds and he had some cohorts there, some false teachers spouting some false doctrines. They had twisted around some of the things that Paul wrote in his first letter and they were telling everybody that “the Day of the Lord” had already set in, which it had not.

People in churches back then were no different than people in church today. Back-biting and gossip was rampant during both eras; little groups splitting off to do Bible study on their own, none of whom knew any more or any less than anybody else in the group but it made them look “special” to the others and that’s all they were after.

They were more interested in being looked up to by the congregation rather than getting down on their knees and humbling themselves before their Creator.

Ref: 2nd Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; KJV

Three verses in and already we’ve gotten to the meat of it all. The two things that MUST happen are:

  • For that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first.

  • And that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

Let’s do the next two verses and then I’ll explain.

Ref: 2nd Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Ref: 2nd Thessalonians 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? KJV

Some people will tell you that this falling away is backsliding and nothing could be further from the truth. Backsliding is losing your focus on the Father and our Lord and going back to the worldly ways of the former man.

Backsliding can be overcome through re-dedication, repentance and re-focusing our thoughts on the things of the spirit and not the things of the world. Always try to remember what James, the “Lord’s brother” said:

Ref: James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. KJV

Falling away is quite different. Whereas backsliding exhibits indifference; falling away exhibits deflection. Let’s see what it is in the Greek language from the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance:

✡  Falling away_ NT:646 -- apostasia (ap-os-tas-ee'-ah); feminine of the same as NT:647; defection from truth (properly, the state) ["apostasy"]:

Let’s also look at the Merriam/Webster dictionary definition:

  • Apostasy

            1)  renunciation of a religious faith

            2)  abandonment of a previous loyalty: defection

Over the years of my life I don’t recall anyone trying to relate the end-time events with the reality of the lives that we’re all presently living. And I’m convinced that the Scriptures have demonstrated that the time of this tribulation of Satan/Antichrist will equate to the length of time of the adult stage of the locust, which is May through September.

Remember, also, that the original length of time was to be 3 ½ years but, as our Lord stated in Matthew, Mark and Luke, that He shortened that time, and as we found in Revelation 9:5 and 9:10, shortened to a five month period, else the Elect themselves would be taken in by the deception and lies of Satan/Antichrist.

With this in mind, let’s assume that the tribulation of Satan/Antichrist, the five months, begins in the spring around the time of the Passover/Easter. The feast day that we celebrate the death of the Savior on the cross, while the churches bring in the pagan rituals of bunny rabbits, cross-cakes, decorated fertility eggs and sunrise services.

Just picture in your mind, for a moment, that not long after you have left the church celebration, whether it be Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or the synagogue, that a figure is seen standing on Mount Zion in Jerusalem and he’s telling all the reporters that he is the risen Christ, once again here on earth.

How many people do you think will believe him, after they have just celebrated His death and resurrection? I would imagine pretty much the entire world.

So, under this scenario that I’ve created, Satan/Antichrist would have no problem at all convincing most of the world that he is truly Jesus Christ. And then let’s add a miracle or two from Satan/Antichrist. Revelation 13:13 tells us that he can make lightning come from the sky:

Ref: Revelation 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, KJV

How many will believe him now? The entire world. Didn’t it say that in Revelation 12:9?

Ref: Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. KJV

And there we have the Apostasy. In full view and full blown.

Those Christians that went to church every Sunday morning for decades; they were told by their preachers that they wouldn’t be here during this tribulation of Satan/Antichrist; they were told by their preachers that they didn’t have to read the book of Revelation and they loved the Lord with all their heart and soul and now, standing right in front of them on that 55” LCD HD digital TV, is one that appears to be Jesus Christ.

And they will believe that he is Jesus Christ. They will unknowingly transfer their love of the true Christ over to the false christ and never even know that they have been had. Conned. Duped. Defrauded. Their faith in the true Christ has been deflected over to the fake christ.

Only our Father’s Election will know the truth of the situation.

The second thing that St. Paul tells us must happen is that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

There are two descriptions of this entity given:

     1) He is a man of sin; and

     2) He is the son of perdition.

Don’t let this word man fool you, it will not be a human being, I don’t care who differs with me on that. Satan has never and will never enter into this world in a flesh and blood body, like you and I. Neither will the 7000 fallen angels.

They will, however, look just like us and why would that be? Because we are made in the image of our Father:

Ref: Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. KJV

And let’s carry this one step further:

Ref: Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: KJV

Adam looks just like God and Seth looks just like Adam. This is not blasphemy to make such a statement for our Father Himself has just said those exact words. He created them, don’t you think that He knows what they look like?

There is little difference between a spiritual body and a flesh and blood body in their outward appearance. Angels eat our food; we eat their food. What did the Israelites eat for forty years? Manna. What was manna? Angel’s food.

Do you remember that Lot ate a meal with two angels in Genesis?

     Ref: Genesis 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

Ref: Genesis 19:2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

Ref: Genesis 19:3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. KJV

  • Lot didn’t know that they were angels; they looked just like him.

  • These two angels washed their feet and ate a feast, along with some biscuits.

I think that we’ve established the fact that Satan/Antichrist will stand in Jerusalem and he will look just like everybody else. The difference will be that he’s in a spiritual body while we are not. Not yet.

His outward appearance will be like a man but he will be in a spiritual body.

And Dr. Bullinger has explained that when the translators of the Texts used the English word man it was only to transfer the masculinity, the gender, of the noun.

Why is Satan/Antichrist called the son of perdition? For this we have to understand what the word perdition means and to do that we’re going to have to go back into the languages again:

✡  Perdition_NT:684-- apoleia (ap-o'-li-a); from a presumed derivative of NT:622; ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal):

     Perdition means apoleia.

     What does apoleia mean?

✡  Apoleia_NT:622-- apollumi (ap-ol'-loo-mee); from NT:575 and the base of NT:3639; to destroy fully (reflexively, to perish, or lose), literally or figuratively:

     What does apollumi mean?

     ✡   Apollumi_NT:623 -- Apolluon (ap-ol-loo'-ohn); active participle of NT:622; a destroyer (i.e. Satan):

  • Perdition-->  apoleia-->  Apollumi-->  Apolluon-->  Apollyon-->  Destroyer/Satan.

That took a bit but we got there. Taking perdition back to its prime root, in the Greek language, we come to “destroyer” or Satan. That’s who the son of perdition is. And the icing on the cake comes from Revelation:

Ref: Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. KJV

This destroyer is also the angel of the bottomless pit, whose Hebrew name is Abaddon and whose Greek name is Apollyon.

Is there any doubt left to contend with? Nope.

So, there you have it; the complete explanation of who the man of sin and the son of perdition really are.

He goes by many names throughout the Scriptures but in the first heaven/earth age, when he fell from our Father's grace, he was called Lucifer and he received a spiritual death sentence for his actions at that time. He is the only soul that our Father created that has been sentenced to death since all of creation.

The 7000 angels that followed him during that age will also die a spiritual death but as of this moment, they are simply being held in chains in Tartarus, awaitig Judgment Day.
