.The Book of Revelation.

Chapter 5

Bible Study-REV-Chapter 5

Study the Bible, Study Torah, Place of worship, Bible Study Book, Holy Bible

Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

Revelation 5:2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

Revelation 5:3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

Revelation 5:4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. KJV

And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne. Who is this talking about? The Him is our Father, God Himself. In previous verses it was alluded to but now we know who sits on this throne.

An angel is taking John from place to place in a time yet future but many of us we will be present right here on earth when the events of Revelation happen but not this part.

As the angel takes John we hear a voice speaking to him and that’s the voice of our Lord, His Son, although at times, as in verse 2, the angel speaks.

So here we have our Father sitting on the Throne, guarded by four seraphims, surrounded by twenty-four elders with golden crowns on their heads, John being led by an angel and our Lord speaking.

In ancient times they didn’t have books as we know them to be; this book was a papyrus scroll and written within and on the backside means that it was written on both sides of the papyrus which should indicate to us completeness. In the Greek this word book is biblion and it means a roll. So it’s not a book as we know them to be as some “experts” claim.

This scroll contains the promises of eternity. Is this scroll the Holy Bible? We have another instance of a scroll in Ezekiel 2 and 3:

     Ezekiel 2:9And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;

Ezekiel 2:10 And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

Ezekiel 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.

Ezekiel 3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

Ezekiel 3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Ezekiel 3:4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. KJV

      Sure looks like it.

It is sealed with seven seals which will be opened one by one and no man was worthy to pick it up and open it. Only Jesus Christ. He had to be born as a man, be crucified, die on the cross and ascend into the heavenly realm in order to destroy Satan’s worldly kingdom, give the opportunity of remission of sin for all and establish His Eternal Kingdom. A divine Plan which went into effect at the close of the katabole’, the war in the world that was.

The fullness of this scroll cannot be opened until after the seven seals are broken and their events have come to pass. The word seal is sphragis and it means a signet or stamp, a mark of genuineness. It was fairly common among the Romans to have such legal documents for property deeds and other legal writings.

John began to cry in despair because he knew that no human being would be qualified to open this scroll, no human could have paid the price. His fears were relieved in the next verse.

Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Revelation 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Revelation 5:7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. KJV

Who is the Lion of the tribe of Juda and the Root of David? Jesus Christ, of course.

7 churches. 7 spirits, 7 golden candlesticks, 7 stars, 7 lamps, 7 seals, 7 horns and 7 eyes. Is somebody trying to tell us something here? In Biblical numerics the number seven represents spiritual completeness and seven can be broken down to 3 + 4: three representing the Holy Trinity and four representing earth and those that live on it. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in relation to His creation, His souls. You and I.

Again, the Patriarchs and the Apostles pay homage to the Lord and our Father. If you have ever wondered whether your prayers are heard by either one, you have your answer right there. The golden vials are full of the prayers of the saints. You and I.

Symbolically speaking, every prayer that you offer to our Father or our Lord is kept in a golden vial and they are not forgotten. These vials are very different from the seven that contain the plagues that will befall Satan and those that follow and worship him.

The Lamb as it had been slain. Even in the heavenly realm we see our Lord with the still visible scars of His Crucifixion, standing in the midst of this group in heaven. Not sitting on the right hand of the Father but in the midst as the lamb offered up for our own salvation.

He stands there omnipotent, powerful and all-knowing, as the horns always represent power and eyes represent awareness of everything around Him. Jesus alone was able to take the scroll from His Father’s hand.

     Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Revelation 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Revelation 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;KJV

Christ died on the cross, not just for those that believed on Him, but for every living soul that will ever walk on this earth in a flesh and blood body. Not just for faint-hearted, swinging in the wind, so-called Christians but also for the drunks, drug addicts, mentally afflicted and etc. He didn’t just die for those that sit in the front of the church but those that are made to sit in the back as well.

He loves every soul ever created. He may not like what we are doing at any given time but His death gives us the opportunity to clean all the bad stuff off of our page in that Book of Life. And if you clean all this up and try to live according to His instructions you actually will reign here on earth with Him.

“and we shall reign on the earth”.

Many people think that when we die we go to heaven, up there somewhere in the sky; almost nobody believes or knows that the eternity will be spent right here on this good earth. I don’t know about you but somehow, knowing that, gives me confidence and security. I don’t like to think of my soul floating around in space somewhere.

There’s even an added promise given here: we will be kings and priests. We will find out more about this later on in this book but during the Millennium and the Eternity we will live among our own people and have our own kings and queens. Additionally, some of us will be part of His Election and we will be priests and judges during the Millennium.

This new song is being sung by a countless number of souls. Ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands and thousands is a Hebrew figure of speech that means there are so many that they cannot be counted. Singing and giving praise to our Lord and the Father.

Revelation 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Revelation 5:14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. KJV

     There’s that number 7 again:

     1. Power

     2. Riches

     3. Wisdom

     4. Strength

     5. Honor

     6. Glory

     7. Blessing.

And the four and twenty-four gave honor and worshipped Him that lives forever.

We’ve covered five chapters so far…..not too bad, is it? Not too scary, is it? Man, is there a lot more to come! Some really great stuff and if you are in good standing with our Father not one hair on your head will be moved out of position by anything that happens. Father has His hand on you throughout the entire process.

Relax. Everything is gonna be alright.
